MyQuoteMaker was built on a simple observation: most people have wise things to say, but wisdom that isn't memorable doesn't travel. The thought that changes someone's week is rarely the most original one they heard - it is the one that was said in a shape they could keep.

What this site is

Two things sit side by side here. The first is a free generator: you type a rough thought, and it returns finished lines built on the mirrored structure known as antimetabole - the device behind sentences from Socrates to John F. Kennedy's 1961 inaugural address. The second is a growing library: hundreds of hand-reviewed lines organized by topic, plus craft articles that explain how the form works so you can eventually stop needing the tool.

We treat the library as a publication rather than a database. Every topic page carries commentary on why its lines work and when to use them, because a list of quotes teaches nothing and a list of quotes with reasoning teaches a skill.

Who finds it useful

Speakers writing an opener or a closer. Managers who have to say something true at a difficult all-hands. Pastors and teachers preparing a talk. Couples writing vows the week before the wedding. Graduates with three minutes at a podium. Writers who need a caption that does not sound like everyone else's caption. And people who simply want to say the thing they mean in a way that survives the conversation.

How the AI works, in plain words

When you submit a thought, the generator does not search a database of existing quotes and hand one back. It writes new candidates from scratch using a language model, then filters them against a written craft specification: the two halves must be close in length, the reversal must be structural rather than cosmetic, the punch word must land last, and - the rule that eliminates the most drafts - the second half must reveal something the first half did not already say.

Several candidates are generated and scored for each request; the ones you see are the survivors. Lines that merely rearrange their own words, a failure common enough to have its own name in our editing walkthrough, are discarded before they reach you. The model is a drafting engine; the specification is the editor.

Our commitment to original lines

Every quote in the library is written for this site. We do not reprint copyrighted modern quotations, and we do not attribute invented lines to real people. Where a historical example appears in an article - Kennedy, a classical author, a scriptural passage - it is brief, clearly attributed, and used to illustrate the craft rather than to fill a page.

If a generated line ever resembles something that already exists, that is a collision of structure, not a copy; the mirrored form is narrow enough that independent writers occasionally land in the same place. Tell us and we will look at it.

How it stays free

MyQuoteMaker is free to use and supported by advertising. There is no account to create and nothing to buy. Ads are placed after content rather than inside it, so a page never interrupts a quote to sell you something. What you make is yours: copy it, print it, post it, say it at the podium without credit.

Who makes it

MyQuoteMaker is made by a small independent team with a long-running fascination with this one device. In 2011, our founder called the nationally syndicated public radio program "A Way with Words" about a collection of what he called "reverse parables" - two-part sayings like "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." The hosts gave him the name for them: antimetabole. You can hear that 2011 segment and read the transcript on the show's site. This site grew out of that collection. It is part of a small family of tools that also includes MyLeadershipMaker, MyJokeMaker, and MyEncourageMaker.
